Heyyy, what's happenin'? You've reached the voicemail of one very fine-lookin' man. Wanna chat? Fanboy all over my mad skillz? Declare your undying love for me? You know what to do. [BEEEEP]
Very dead. I don't know what the idiots who put her back together did, but she's basically trapped in a walking corpse. And the worst part is that she has no idea. She thinks they brought her back for real.
I told them using chaos magic was a bad idea. And if I thinks it's a bad idea...chances are, it's a bad idea.
[There's a long, harsh exhalation of breath on the other end. Deadpool isn't normally squeamish about anything, but the thought of such a beautiful little girl being trapped inside her own corpse is enough to make him nauseous.
It is a good few seconds before he's able to compose himself enough to speak again.]
So, what? We should've left her dead? Because it's my understanding that that would've been even worse.
[His voice is defensive; angry, though perhaps not merely at her.]
[It's rare for Zatanna to be so serious about anything. Her usual demeanor was so uplifting; even when she was suffering internally, she still attempted an outer facade of smiles and sassy comebacks.]
[But this? She was dead serious. Pun not intended.]
Maybe not. They messed with her soul. Trapped her. She's not going to age, and there's a chance the body she's in now could keep decomposing further. Even if that doesn't happen, she's still not going to heal if she gets hurt again.
But that's not why I called you. Not entirely. You see, when I was talking with her...she mentioned she gave you a communicator of some kind? Different than the ones we use to talk to each other.
[The mention of his phone is so out of left field it seems like a non-sequitur. Deadpool is quiet for another few seconds before replying.]
Uh... yeah. She left me a special phone a long time ago. Apparently it's only got enough juice to make five calls. I, uh... haven't had the chance to use it yet.
[What he means is that he's been saving his calls for a moment when he absolutely had to hear her voice. He's mentally kicking himself about it now.]
Aside from the obvious, the biggest problem with Jessica right now is that she still wants to help us. But she's in even less of a condition to do so now than she was before. I told her that she should wait until we call her for help...and that's when she brought up the phone.
Specifically, she brought up the person who created that phone for her. A guy named...Stephan, I think it was?
I want you to get in touch with him. Explain the whole situation. Maybe there's a chance he could either convince Jessica to stay away for a while--or, since I know that's most likely not happening--create a new comm for us. One that won't burn out after five uses.
If she knows we can reach her anytime we need or want to, there's less of a chance she'll show up again on her own and get...whatever else could possibly happen to her.
[Deadpool takes a while to mull this over. It's a good plan... except for the part where he has to hope that this Stephen guy will even listen to his request, much less honor it. There's another problem, too.]
[She never claimed it was perfect, but it was all she had.]
Assuming you don't have any way to cross the barrier and meet up with them in-person...you do have the comm you have now. And assuming you still have all five charges left, this would be as good a time as any to try it out.
And what if we can't find this guy? I don't wanna waste all my calls just to try and locate someone who might not even want to be found.
[The remark about meeting in person stops him for a moment. There's silence as he mulls over something Beast Boy had told him in passing.]
Y'know, I think one of my roommates might've said something about trying to find this Stefan guy. Something about apologizing or something? I dunno. If you want, I can tag along with them and try to get some of your answers that way. Might have a better chance than just using the phone. Whaddya say?

I don't see what that has to do with anything.

[No, really.]

[He's listening. That's generally a good sign.]

This is where the favor comes in.

So how'm I supposed to get in touch with him?

All I have to go on is what I overheard from Beast Boy, and it wasn't particularly helpful. Or encouraging.
no subject
Though I have to question how reliable a source you have there. I mean...it's Beast Boy.
[The guy was practically convinced she and Red were dating. For some reason.]

[Okay, so she kinda has a point there.]
It's still worth a shot. If we can't find him we can always do the cell phone thing later. No big deal.
[Unless something catastrophic happens like it always does. C'mon, Wade. Stay positive.]

What, you mean like getting killed by PH the same day everybody wakes up in swanky new apartments?]Works for me.
Do that, and I'd consider your part of the deal fulfilled.
